Paul Dainty

Paul Dainty was the promoter on all of David Bowie's four tours of Australia - 1978, 1983, 1987 and 2004.

"We deal with so many artists - and the word legend and icon is used too much but [David Bowe] truly falled into that category - and not only was he a brilliant talent, he was one of those genuine great nice people - a true gentleman in the industry which you rarely get"

Paul remembers Bowie insisting a concert at Kooyong, due to be cancelled due to horrendous weather, go ahead.

"He was an absolute professional through and through. His fanbase aren’t transient and his fans from the '70s are still fans today."

In terms of David Bowie's live work, Paul says that if you look back at touring which is now such a big part of the music business, David Bowie set the standard for so many artists in terms of how you present a show and the production:

"If you go back to the late 1970s and 80s, David Bowie came out with those incredible stadium productions that were brand new in those days and set the standard for the shows today."
