40 YEARS AGO Oct 9, 1978
David Bowie's double live album Stage entered the Australian chart (5 days ahead of its UK and US release) on this date 40 years ago.

Stage synchronized fairly well with the Australian and New Zealand portion of the Low/Heroes tour. The tour kicked off in Adelaide just one month after the album's release and not surprisingly, the Australian longevity of the album was better than the US and UK put together.

The New Zealand success of the album was even more spectacular - hitting the nations top spot in November and achieving Gold status.

IT'S ALWAYS TIME

Adam Rudegeair’s Bowie Project has been quiet for a little while, and now we know why… They’ve been brewing a new album -- selecting takes, commissioning artwork, and perfecting the mix…

The title “It’s Always Time” is a lyric borrowed from New Angels of Promise, which originally appears on the album Hours (1999) and has been interpreted by The Bowie Project with a South African jazz flavor inspired by Abdullah Ibrahim>

The percussionist for David Bowie, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins and numerous others - will soon be hitting Birds Basement in Melbourne.

SAMMY FIGUEROA has long been regarded as one of the world's great jazz musicians and is well-known for his versatility. He also has two Grammy® Nominations for Best Latin Jazz.

On the David Bowie albums LET'S DANCE and TONIGHT, Sammy left his mark in what is understood to be some of the Latin tinged aspects in some of the songs. As Chris O'Leary (Pushing Ahead of The Dame) asserts, his appearances are often a welcome relief among the instrumentation that Bowie used in that period. Sammy will be be appearing as part of the Latin Jazz Festival. 22 August - 26 August 18.

AUSTRALIA / NZ Jan - Feb

ROGER WATERS

ROGER WATERS - singer and songwriter from the legendary UK rock band Pink Floyd - will tour Australia and New Zealand this January and February.

In the mid 1980s, Bowie and Waters both wrote original music for the soundtrack album 'When The Wind Blows'. Bowie was originally going to write the film score but ran into time restraints / other commitments. He still managed to complete the title track / theme song, whilst Roger Waters took over the bulk of the project.
