Hunky Dory Tribute Show
The Hunky Dory Tribute show was a one off event featuring
the songs of David Bowie performed live by an array of Aussie musicians.
It was performed at the Corner Hotel
in Melbourne, on the 8th of December, 2002.
PETER MASKELL
The show opened with
three acoustic numbers by Geelong musician Peter Maskell whose eponymous
debut album was released in 2000:
1. Don't Bring Me Down (acoustic blues version)
2. Growin' Up (acoustic in Springsteen style)

Andy Warhol (acoustic)

JONA BYRON
Following on in acoustic mode was Jona Byron
who performed the ever-so-wordy Bewlay Brothers in addition to
a reworked version of China Girl.

5. China Girl ('waltz version').
Byron's debut album was in 1999 and has been followed with mini album

MARK
EDEN
Mark Eden
then came on stage and joined the house band which conisisted of Nick
(guitar), Brendon (drums), Grant (bass) and Claire (piano). He was draped
in a long 60s styled coat that looked like something out of woodstock.

ANDY GORDON
The house band stayed on to meet their new singer, Andy Gordon. Before
commencing his first number - Soul Love - Gordon reminisced on having
constructed a very theological meaning to the song before ever having
read the lyric sheet. He performed:

RAOUL GRAF
Having previously released two solo albums - Splinters and Marsfield
in addition to albums with the band The Infidels, Sydney musician Raoul
Graf took the stage to perform:

CHRIS CHAPPLE
Chris Chapple - a one time guitarist for Autohaze - then came on stage
to perform:

THE SPOILS
Melbourne band The Spoils then performed:

KERRI SIMPSON
A noted singer of blues and gospel styles, Kerri Simpon took the stage
to perform two Hunky Dory numbers in addition to Bowie's classic song
"Heroes".

REBECCA BARNARD
Known for her band Rebecca's Empire (1996 to 2000), Rebecca Barnard then sang two of Bowie's most famous songs from the 1970s:

ANDY WHITE
A close associate of both The Hothouse Flowers and Tim Finn, Irish musician
Andy White flew in from Adelaide when he found out about the show. He
performed:

CYNDI BOSTE
A contemporary, alternative, singer songwriter from Melbourne,
Cyndi Boste then tackled Song for Bob Dylan before finishing up with a
rocking version of Rebel Rebel.
During the finale, a drunken Scotsman informed the small crowd to "clear
the tables.....this is David Bowie"!
